CTS / Martial Arts / Testing

Checking In

Well, Iron Mountain has come and gone. It was a great two and a half days of training. We covered updates to Panatukan Level 01 and 02, Pangamot and the Kenpo Counterpoint Assault Set. Master Whitson also taught us walking stick, spear and staff techniques.
Every belt level from Blue to 3rd Black tested over the course of two nights. Congratulations to all those who tested and passed. The sparring was exciting and really displayed all the hard work everyone put into their training. Congrats to Josh Ryer of Ryer Martial Arts on his promotion to 3rd Black belt, to David Curet and Joel Daugherty of Ryer Martial Arts on their promotion to 2nd Black belt, to Russ Haas of the East Coast School of Self Defense on his promotion to 2nd Black belt, to Kevin Wagner of Gem City Martial Arts on his promotion to 2nd Black belt, Brian Brown of Atlanta Martial Arts on his promotion to 2nd Black belt, and to Preston Macready of Ryer Martial Arts on his promotion to 1st Black Belt. Also, congratulations go to Alejandro Akrouh of Saint Louis Counterpoint martial arts on his promotion to Green belt. He worked hard on this material and showed well in his test.

The cabin views are amazing and overlook Watauga Reservoir. The area was beautiful with cool, crisp air. The morning started off with beautiful scenery, and at night, the other cabins had fires that we’d gather around at night. At Zach’s place, the day was split into a morning session, lunch, an afternoon session, testing and then dinner. Dian Tanaka Whitson prepared all the food for lunches and dinners, and believe me, we all ate very well. Thanks to Miss Dian for all the wonderful food.

A more detailed update will be posted later is posted here; this post is just a quick rundown and congratulations. There is so much more to the Iron Mountain camp than just training and beautiful scenery; it is like a big family reunion where we all get together to swing sticks at each other. There is laughter, food and friendship, which is what I call a great vacation.
